I remember a friend asking me before my baby arrived, “Oh, are you planning to baby wear a lot?”
“Yes,” I thought… why wouldn’t I? Turns out not all baby carriers are created equal. In fact, a lot of them are just plain terrible. I ended up not baby wearing nearly as much as I wanted to because the carriers I tried were uncomfortable, bulky, or a pain to put on. When my baby was a little over a year old, I was introduced to the BUMPSUIT Armadillo carrier, and honestly, it changed everything.
What we love
- Super soft material in the Armadillo that feels good for baby and you
- Great for babies 7-45 lbs
- Looks beautiful and is functional (pockets!)
- Available in a variety of colors
- Incredible back support
The not so good parts
- Higher-end price point
- Lighter colors get dirty easily (but cleaning isn’t bad)
Bump or No Bump – I’m BUMPSUITt-ing
I first met the founder of BUMPSUIT, Nicole Trunfio, a few months ago at a dinner in Austin. I’ll never forget something she said when she first spoke: “I’m going to take my shoes off, so I can feel the earth under me.” That moment stuck with me — a small but telling window into the ethos behind the brand. When I came to learn more about her story, I was even more struck by that comment. Having founded BUMPSUIT while pregnant with her third baby, Nicole was well-acquainted with the fact that maternity styles were limited… at best. At worst, they weren’t something she wanted to wear or felt comfortable in.
You might be wondering… all of this chatter about “BUMPSUITS” – where does the “suit” part come in? BUMPSUIT’s first product was just that: a one-piece jumpsuit that had no seams or elastic that could be thrown on with heels or slippers. I have one (and I’m not pregnant) and I wear it on the regular. It does feel like a true “second skin,” as Nicole had designed it to.
When I asked her recently more about the founding story, she noted, “I created BUMPSUIT to completely redefine the experience of motherhood, to prove that maternity can be powerful, stylish, and deeply supportive. We’re constantly innovating the products we offer women, not just during pregnancy, but also postpartum and beyond, because motherhood doesn’t stop, and neither should the support. Every piece is engineered to move with you, hold you, and remind you of your strength. BUMPSUIT is more than clothing… It’s a movement. We’re here to make mothers feel seen, celebrated, and never alone. Our community is the heart of everything we do because when women feel connected and uplifted, anything is possible.” Talk about a mic drop.
All Things Armadillo
Back to the carrier. I was hesitant, as I mentioned, to get a carrier so “late” in my baby journey. But I would do it again and again. Either Nicole or Jen, their COO, said it best over dinner: “We make the best baby carriers.” And that is no exaggeration! My favorite features about the carrier are how luxuriously soft it is, how easy it is to put on, and the fact that it looks great with any outfit. It also works for forward-facing (world-facing) and babies who still need to face you.
Beyond that, it supports my back, which can hurt when carrying a bigger kid, really well. I love the pockets and accessories it features, like a D-Ring and elastic tab to hold keys, water bottles, pacifiers… really anything you need to enjoy a hands-free day out with baby. The other day, we went for a walk at our local park and I strapped the Armadillo on just in case my toddler needed a rest. My toddler put his hand inside of the carrier, indicating he wanted to get in. I don’t think he actually needed a rest, I think he really just wanted to get in and be snug up against me. And… cue my momma heart absolutely melting.

Beyond all of these things, BUMPSUIT has worked with The International Hip Dysplasia Institute to ensure this is truly safe for baby’s hips. Many carriers do not properly support a baby, especially in the hip area, but they did their homework, so you don’t have to worry. If I were to do it over again (and hopefully I’ll get to with another baby), I’d skip the baby wrap and the other big-name carriers and buy the Armadillo over and over again.

The not so good parts
Since we take pride in testing products for you (so you don’t have to), we tested a few other BUMPSUIT products. First, we tested the Kate Unitard ($135). I’m a tall girl, so I was a little skeptical of the XS-XXL sizing chart, but it worked out pretty darn well. It hits a little above my ankle, but still looks very cute. The fabric is ridiculously soft and such an easy throw-on piece for work from home. I still have yet to try to dress it up, but I think that has more to do with the fact I have two little kids at home and less to do with the “dress-up-ability” of the piece.
I also have their “The Cloud Perfect Sleep Shirt,” which has been exceptional for summer sleeping. Again… not pregnant and this thing is fab. My husband thinks it is SUPER sexy, which can be good or bad depending on what you’re looking to get out of your sleepwear. It seems to be that same, super-soft material as the unitard that I can’t get enough of.
Is It Worth the Investment?
All in all, BUMPSUIT has completely won me over — not just with the Armadillo carrier (which, yes, I’m obsessed with), but with everything they make. From the chic, ultra-soft unitard I throw on for work-from-home days to the dreamy sleep shirt that somehow makes bedtime feel luxurious, every piece feels intentionally designed for real moms. It’s rare to find a brand that nails comfort, function, and style so seamlessly — and even rarer to feel this seen and supported by a company. Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, or just deep in the trenches of motherhood, BUMPSUIT makes gear that actually makes life easier — and that’s the kind of brand I’ll shout about any chance I get.
